I decided reading this book because this was trending on my instagram account’s news feed. I got curious so I stumbled to look for an ebook version of this site over the web. Luckily, I’d found a comprehensive copy.
The story of this book is cute. For a teenager like me (by teenager I mean ‘twenteen’), I find the plot a simple yet a realistic one. It is a story about Eleanor who lives with her stepfather and her mother as well as other siblings. She has difficulty in dealing things with her father. I am also affected how pitiful their situation is. Then, there’s Park, who is an Asian boy whom Eleanor always sees inside the bus she’s riding on her way to school. This Asian boy has taken her interest as each day passed by.
The development of the story is light. It just emphasized how a thirteen year-old young ones would deal with the term ‘love.’ It just started with the topics which they are fond of talking about. The same genre of the music which they are into, the same comic books which they are reading, and the same reaction towards the other students inside the bus make Eleanor and Park to be close with one another.
I like how they became fond of each other. It’s so simple and sweet. The author has an interesting way of giving the point of view for each character. Though it’s written in third P.O.V., it seems that the characters are really saying what they think. For me, the writer has made the two characters realistic. The conflict and problem with Eleanor’s family is really happening. It really is.
I also adore the twist of the story. It’s so unpredictable. I have thought of a different twist which I thought would happened. But it didn’t.
My favorite line or quote from Eleanor and Park is:
“It was ‘Oh my God, he’s so cute’ at first sight. If Shakespeare wanted you to believe they were in love, he wouldn’t tell you in the first scene that Romeo was hung up on Rosalie… It’s Shakespeare making fun of love.” -Eleanor
This is said during Eleanor and Park’s class about Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Eleanor is a brilliant girl. Right? 🙂
I am left hanging after the last line of the book. I won’t post those lines anymore. It is definitely a cliff hanger. xxx
